I like that it still feels like there's a ton of content here. Got surprised when advancing to the next area a couple times yesterday, too. Finally beat the second boss and made it to the final boss for the first time in the same run. The bosses are pretty fun, but there seem to only be three at the moment, but each gets a bit more mechanically challenging and it wasn't unusual for me to get hard gated at one until I got a few more upgrades and generally better at figuring out the mechanics.Īlso, started seeing somethings I'd never seen before. Assault eats through ammo, but I find it's just a touch more plentiful than the game suggests. Sniper would have been my go-to, but the single-bullet before reload kills it for me. Not sure why (maybe because ADS feels misaligned on everything but Assault), but Assault just seems to be clicking with me in a way the rest don't.
Personally, I've found that the Assault class feels best. There are multiple classes, and getting to rank 5 with each will unlock the next (except sniper, which requires rank 10 in assault). Then I find my flow and can get a few good runs in. until I get used to the moving and reloading while under fire. But there's also something about the game where the first run of the day will absolutely get me killed right from the jump. Particularly if you're in the open (which the game tells you not to do), reloading WILL get you killed until you get very good at it.

That said, it's a rouge-like, so if you can manage to make it through the first couple of levels and deposit the souls you're collecting, you can get a few upgrades and then it should start to click.įor me, getting used to the manual reload mechanic (similar to Pavlov) has been the hardest adjustment. I could see some people bouncing off this, feeling like they're getting picked off during reloads. the game doesn't do much to help you out. I think that's by design, but you can die very quickly at first (enemies hit HARD) and with a lot of helpful tips, any sort of help with controls, and useful control tweaks all being buried in the menu. Wanted to drop a few thoughts here for people who have been on the fence.įirst, the game doesn't make a great first impression. Wasn't sure if I should pick this up or not, but after seeing some positive reviews, I took a chance on it, and I've probably logged more hours in this game than any other at the moment.
